AOH and LAOH members gather in Washington, DC before proceeding in the march for Life.

Hibernians from throughout the country assembled in mass for the annual March for Life in Washington, DC on January 22nd.  Members from the AOH and LOAH came to DC by plane, train, bus and car.  They came as part of their Divisions, part of their own parishes and individually, to take part in a public show of support to end legalized abortion set into law by the Supreme Court 29 years ago.  AOH members were joined by family, friends and some brought their young children to instill the importance of the march for Life.

With uncooperative weather and cold temperatures, the AOH began the day with a warm and filling Right to Life breakfast sponsored by the Washington, DC State Board at a downtown Irish Pub.  President Boyle, Ladies President Ryan, and numerous members of the national Board from the men’s and ladies’ AOH were in attendance and the importance of the AOH’s support for Life was expressed by Pro-Life Chairman Matt Nelligan as he addressed the breakfast attendees.  Brother Nelligan stressed the importance of the AOH following the Church’s doctrine of sanctity of life.  Many members attended special masses held at numerous Churches throughout DC, Maryland and Virginia, the Basilica of the National Shrine at Catholic University and at the Verizon Center Sports arena (one of the only indoor venues large enough to meet the demand of the great number of marchers).

After the breakfast, members that were not with their parish groups joined fellow Hibernians at a staging area before marching the parade route on Constitution Avenue.  In a great show of solidarity our members peacefully paraded past Senate offices and the Capitol building to their final destination, the Supreme Court.
